"The Canadian Stair and Railing Association dedicated to consumer safety by promoting cooperation between legislators and industry in the development of clear and enforceable building regulations."
The Stair And Railing Association (SARA) is a national non-profit association in conjunction with leading stair manufacturers, builders, installers, engineers, and other related professionals in Canada to help establish a unified interpretation of standards and guidelines for the stair and railing industry.
SARA's focus is to develop a consensus within the stair and railing industry regarding codes and standards by:
The need for SARA is apparent since no one company has the resources, time, or energy to watch, understand, or participate in the building code development process. That is why from discussions with code officials and interactions in the code hearings SARA speaks for you!
SARA advocates standards that ensure design and installation criteria are met or exceed the minimum required standard as set forth by the existing codes and guidelines.
SARA promotes education of all involved in the stair and railing industry thus protecting the rights and interests of both the consumer and the stair industry. SARA's code of ethics has been formulated to insure industry growth and prosperity while setting the standard of safety and workmanship.
SARA through one voice encourages improvement in the national code and local codes by actively participating as a leader in the code change process at all levels that can affect change.
SARA is working to become a central resource, so that our members will always be informed on current and proposed code information impacting all facets of the stair building industry.
SARA is providing for the future by supporting and participating in research involving design and product testing. Our goal is to achieve both safety and aesthetics regarding stair and related components.
SARA is focused on building code development that fit the changing stair and railing industry.
SARA supports uniform code interpretation and enforcement.
SARA will soon publish a Visual Interpretation of the Stair Building Codes (now in its draft form we hope to publish this soon) as a tool for building officials, design professionals, contractors, and others in our industry. These graphic interpretations bring the written code to life and provide an accurate and easily visualized interpretation of the building code. Such invaluable resources will be available for download from the SARA web site.
SARA is growing and in a short time has become an organization with a unified credible voice, with a proactive stance in code and standards development and is dedicated to servicing the stair and railing industry.
With your participation SARA will continue to be a unified voice protecting the rights and interests of both the consumer and the stair industry, join us today!
